The story
Khiale To (“Your Dream”) is a song about rain and memory. When the sky clouds over, old memories come alive, and the scent of rain on earth brings back long walks through quiet streets with someone far away. Ali wrote the music as a deliberate return to “the style of those days” – the warm, melodic sound many listeners first knew from his years with The Arian Band – and set it to lyrics by Yavar Fallahi.
Ali composed, arranged and produced the song himself, and sang and played guitar on it. To make the words sit naturally on the melody, he asked Yavar to reshape the metre of one couplet, and Yavar gladly did. Ali wanted a touch of the old Arian sound in the track. His friend Mohammad Fallahi mixed and mastered the song. The cover art was a gift from designer Aydin Arjmandi – Ali loved the design and chose it for the release. Khiale To was released on 23 January 2021.
On 24 May 2025, Ali sang Khiale To live in Sydney at “The Arian Band Reimagined: A Symphony of Memories” at the Seymour Centre’s Everest Theatre, in a new orchestral-pop arrangement by Tomás Fiszman under Music Director Dr Daniel Rojas. The most-streamed of his solo songs, it is one Ali says “holds a very special place in my heart.”
